Report: FDNY overtime costs on the rise

December 15, 2010 4:10:31 AM PST
There is word Wednesday that overtime costs at the FDNY have turned sizzling hot.

The Wall Street Journal reports overtime has already cost $30 million more than expected.

And by the end of this year, the excess cost could boom to $50 million.

The source of the problem is a manpower shortage caused by a legal battle between the city and a federal judge over the department's lack of minority hiring and promotions.
