John Martinez is being held without bail after being arraigned Monday on charges of robbing two women in elevators in a Bronx apartment complex on Nov. 14. Defense lawyer Pat Bonanno has requested a psychiatric examination for Martinez. He says the 39-year-old has reported a history of psychiatric hospitalization.
Bronx prosecutors say Martinez had a knife in one holdup and an ice pick in the other.
Martinez was charged Dec. 9 with three muggings in elevators in a Manhattan apartment complex. No victims were hurt.
Martinez was arrested on a parole-violation warrant this month in Cliffside Park, N.J.
