4 break-ins in just 1 day in Rye

RYE, N.Y.

One town in particular got hit four times in one day.

All the homes had one thing in common: Their owners weren't home.

Now police are looking for the thieves.

"The Xbox was gone, all gone," said Jill DiMassimo, a burglary victim.

Call them the burglars who stole Christmas, or at least Jill DiMassimo's sons Christmas gifts.

Wednesday, the family went out for a few hours.

When they returned they found the lock on the front door had been popped open and thieves had rummaged through the house.

The DiMassimos are not alone.

Three other houses in Rye were broken into Wednesday within a five hour span.

All of the homes were empty and in some locations the owners had been away for the holidays.

Thursday, police used a reverse 911 system to alert residents to the break-ins and urge homeowners to take common sense precautions such as leaving lights and alarms on.

They also ask residents to avoid telltale signs no one's home like newspapers piling up.
