NY Blood Center issues emergency donor appeal

NEW YORK

The center normally maintains a 3-to-5 day blood supply. It said Thursday that several blood types had dropped below the 2-day minimum level.

Vice President Rob Purvis says this winter has led to a constant struggle. The blood supply finally gets built up again, then another storm comes along and keeps donors at home.

The blood center serves more than 20 million people in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and New Jersey.
