State senators look to increase LIPA oversight

Long Island lawmakers appear to be fed up with Long Island Power Authority's rate hikes and overcharges.

Several Republican state senators are holding a public hearing Thursday morning on ways to make LIPA more accountable to its ratepayers.

Earlier this week, the state Senate passed legislation to increase state LIPA oversight.

The bill would require LIPA to notify the public service commission for rate increases of more than 2.5 percent.
