Police are searching for a suspect who snatched a purse from a 78-year-old woman, throwing her to the ground in the process.

Following a group of people walking along Arthur Avenue, the hooded thief sneaks up behind a woman walking with two other men. Suddenly he reaches out, pulling her to the ground as he steals the victim's purse.

"Someone grabbed me from behind, my left arm. Grabbed my purse and knocked me down to the ground," the victim tells Eyewitness News.

The victim and her husband were together at the time. We are not revealing their identities at their request. Both agree though it all happened so quickly there was no time to react.

"I didn't even realize I had been mugged," the victim adds.

After the mugging, the victim's husband and another man start chasing the thief, but were not able to catch him.

The suspect is described as a black male 18-23 years old, about 6 feet, slim build. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a black jacket with multi colored embroidery on the back.

In addition to having her purse stolen the victim says she suffered bruising to her left arm and elbow from hitting the ground. She's glad she was not seriously injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS(8477).
