A press release says a 56-year-old James Olsen called police, telling them he had strangled his mother. When officers arrived, they found 88-year-old Ruth Olsen woman dead.
The man was taken to a hospital for self-inflicted slash wounds to his wrist. His condition was not immediately known.
He was expected to be arraigned on a second-degree murder charge at a later date. It was not known if the man had a lawyer.
