There are predictions that tolls on the bridges and tunnels leading into New York City from New Jersey could soon reach or even pass the $10 mark.

The New York Times reports some elected officials point to Governor Chris Christie's push to finance transportation with big increases in transit fares and higher tolls on highways.

Just last May, New Jersey Transit fares went up an average of 22 percent while service was cut back.
