City Council to vote on FDNY age restrictions

The Sound the Alarm campaign was prompted by a fire in the Bronx that took the lives of nine children and an adult last March.

The New York City Council is expected to approve legislation Thursday that raises the age limit for the FDNY from 29 to 35.

But it would only apply to a group of people who have already taken the entrance exam or qualified in other ways, such as through the military.

That is because the fire department has not been able to hire anyone new in three years due to an ongoing court case.
