East River Ferry launches today

NEW YORK

Ferries will travel along a seven-stop route that stretches from Long Island City to the Fulton Ferry landing.

Ferries will operate year-round between East 34th Street and Pier 11 in Manhattan and Long Island City in Queens as well as between Manhattan and Greenpoint, North Williamsburg, South Williamsburg and DUMBO in Brooklyn.

During peak hours, boats will arrive at each stop every 20 minutes and travel in both directions.

During the summer there will be ferries to Brooklyn Bridge Park on Fridays and Governors Island on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The /*East River Ferry*/ will carry riders for free during the first two weeks of service (June 13-June 24, 2011).

Year-round ferry service started Monday and will be free through June 24. After that it will cost $4 for a one-way ticket, $12 for an all-day pass and $140 for a monthly pass.
