The blaze broke out on the fourth floor of the West 10th Street home just before 2:00 this morning.
The fire spread to the curtains and drapes before responding firefighters were able to put out the flames.
Love was treated at the scene for a minor hand injury.
/*Courtney Love*/ began renting the townhouse for about $27,000 per month last February following a long search for a new home.
The house has three bedrooms, five bathrooms, six fireplaces, colorfully painted walls and is "made for luxury living and entertaining," according to the real estate listing.
It had been featured in the January 2009 issue of Elle Decor Magazine.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
