Yonkers man arrested over gunfire in fireworks fight

YONKERS

The incident happened on Croydon Road around 10:30 p.m. Monday, when authorities responded to calls of a man with a gun.

A woman told police she was approached by the suspect, Paul Cortese, who began to argue with her about fireworks being set off.

Cortese then allegedly pushed the woman and several of her friends to the ground before taking a gun out of his waistband and pointed it at them. He then fired the gun into the air, according to police, and the women fled the area.

Cortese returned to his home, where he was later arrested.

As a result of being pushed to the ground, several of the women sustained abrasions. They refused medical attention at the scene.

Police say Cortese had several legally possessed firearms in his home. He is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, reckless endangerment and assault.
