Police say it began with a carjacking, and ended with a spectacular sight - a geyser shooting water 100 feet into the air.

Firefighters tried to shut off the geyser for more than two hours. It eventually ended up soaking homes and flooding an entire Los Angeles neighborhood.

Investigators say that a man stole a car at knifepoint, and then struck two vehicles. After hitting the second vehicle, a van, the driver drove up the curb and knocked over a fire hydrant, which started the geyser.

In all, three homes were damaged, and one family had to be evacuated and spend the night in a Red Cross hotel.
