"I'm embarrassed, I'm humiliated," said Evelyn Carmona of Accessory Palace, "I'm just going to pack the store and relocate, I can't do it, I'm afraid, I feel violated."
It's a day Evelyn Carmona never dreamed of, the day she would close the business she built from the ground up, not because of financial problems, but she says because of what state police did to her small boutique.
"The glass was shattered everywhere, my tables were knocked over, jewelry was broken," Carmona said.
Accessory Palace looked destroyed after police got done with it Thursday afternoon.
Officers came in with a warrant, searching for drugs at 850 South Orange Avenue.
There's one common front door but inside to the right is Evelyn's shop, the left, was the intended target.
At the time, Evelyn's was closed, locked but officers broke in, ransacked the spot and left empty handed.
The store across the hallway was open, police went inside and Evelyn says arrested a man, found drugs and cash.
By the time Evelyn got to her shop, everyone was gone.
She came to get some answers from police.
"I was like, I am the victim not the criminal, I just want some answers, someone to be held accountable for this wrongdoing here," Carmona said.
Things were so bad that while Evelyn was cleaning up the mess police left behind, a steady stream of people were still showing up trying to go to the business next door and so she posted signs to make things crystal clear.
Eyewitness News obtained a copy of the search warrant but on page two it gives a detailed description of the layout of the inside of the intended target.
It described a glass top counter with a register on the right side and a clothing rack in the center with various types of garments.
Evelyn's shop has none of that.
The store next door is a perfect match.
"It's heartbreaking, been here a year, started the store with almost nothing, I feel embarrassed, I feel humiliated," Carmona said.
