4 Long Island firefighters hurt in drill accident

Four members of a Long Island fire department drill racing team were injured during a training session.

Nassau County officials say the firefighters from the Elmont Fire Department were on the rear step of a truck holding a grip bar when the truck struck a guard rail, throwing them to the ground. It happened in North Woodmere Tuesday night.

All four were taken to local hospitals. Newsday reports that three of the firefighters were listed in stable condition with various abrasions and contusions. A fourth firefighter was listed in serious condition.

Nassau County Police say the accident is under investigation.
