The New York Times reports that fewer New Yorkers are leaving because they are unable to sell their homes. And more people from struggling parts of the country, like the Rust Belt and the southwest, have been moving in, seeking a chance to start over.
The Census Bureau's American Community Survey shows 252,000 people moved to New York in 2010 while 220,000 left.
That's a change from previous recessions, when many New Yorkers left for other parts of the country where real estate was cheap.
Fewer New Yorkers are also moving to the suburbs.
