Prosecutor: State home employee abused residents

NORWICH, Conn.

Ellis Hagstrom of Brooklyn was arraigned Friday on in Danielson Superior Court on 42 counts of sexual assault related to the abuse of two victims at a Department of Developmental Services group home.

The Norwich Bulletin reports that Assistant State's Attorney Edward Azzaro said detectives determined the assaults began in 2000 for one victim and 2003 for another. He said one victim at the Danielson home is a quadriplegic, another is blind and both have mental health issues.

Defense attorney Martin Weis said his 57-year-old client has "deep-seated psychological problems" and has been cooperating with investigators.

Hagstrom worked for the state for 25 years. He was arrested on Wednesday.
