NYPD detective hit by van, pinned

A New York City police detective was seriously injured when he was struck by a van and pinned between two cars during a traffic stop in Brooklyn.

The crash happened at around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the Flatbush section.

The detective reportedly stopped a car and was standing near the rear bumper when a van rear-ended it, crushing the detective's legs.

The police department said the detective was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the van remained at the scene.

Investigators are looking into whether the motorist broke any laws.
