Teacher accused of forgery to get out of class

NEW YORK

Mona Lisa Tello worked at the High School of Graphic Arts in Manhattan.

According to investigators, she produced a false document, ostensibly issued by a court to confirm jury duty service, to excuse her absences from work.

Tello allegedly claimed jury duty as an excuse for her absence 15 times between September 2010 and May 2011.

She is facing forgery and related charges.

School investigators are also recommending that Tello be terminated by the New York City Department of Education and made ineligible for work in the City school system.
