The biggest clue police have is surveillance tape of the armed robbers.
When the man in the gray hoodie pulled out a gun, shop owner Lance Stein immediately triggered the silent alarm.
"If they're going to shoot you, they're going to shoot you either way," Stein said.
Thankfully they didn't.
Last week, the man in the dark clothes and baseball cap walked into Stein's jewelry store on Hempstead Turnpike in /*Franklin Square*/.
Stein says he pretended to be interested in a diamond ring and that a friend was coming to help him.
"So I showed him an engagement ring and I was explaining to him how to buy them, how once they are near a carat you need to certify them and not just trust anybody," Stein said.
Those words would prove so true. You see the second man pulled out a gun while the first put on gloves.
They forced the owner into the back of the store and tied his hands.
When the phone started ringing, Stein warned the men the police are coming.
Then, Stein's son-in-law happened to walk into the store and the two men panicked.
Eyewitness News was told there was a scuffle with the son-in-law.
One suspect dropped his cell phone before escaping.
In the end, they didn't get anything, but they left a long trail of crystal clear evidence.
"We have very good pictures of the suspects, we need the public's help in order to solve this crime," said Det. Sgt. John Giambrone, Nassau County Police Department.
