Brooklyn toddler beaten to death; arrest made

NEW YORK

Officials say the little boy was beaten and police have already made an arrest.

Jacqil Degraffenreid lived at 140 Shepherd Avenue in Cypress Hills with his mother.

Neighbors say the boy and his mother moved in about a week ago, empty boxes are still piled up outside.

But in the short time, police have already had to come to this two story brownstone to try and figure out why Jacqil was killed.

Relatives wanted nothing to do with us.

Officers from the 75th precinct came to the home at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Jacqil's mother called 911 after finding her son unconscious and unresponsive inside the home.

She had reportedly left her son with her boyfriend, Tyree Wright, 19, while she ran out for a few hours.

When she returned the toddler was dead.

An autopsy on Jacqil's bruised body shows he died after suffering from multiple lacerations to his liver and pancreas.

The blunt impact injuries caused internal hemorrhaging.

In other words, he was beaten so hard, police say by Wright, that the little boy couldn't recover from the tremendous blows.

Wright is charged with assault.
