Toddler critically injured in window fall

JERSEY CITY

The 2-year-old is now listed in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center. Doctors are treating him for severe head injuries.

The screen was not enough to protect Vincent Matthew as the toddler plunged from the window, crash landing onto the garbage area below.

A neighbor heard the horrible thud from across the street, rushed out and picked up the tiny child.

He now has blood stains on his white sleeve.

The father explained that he had just removed the protective bars in order to put in an air conditioner.

He claims he was in the bathroom Tuesday night while his toddler was watching "Barney".

Seconds later, there was disaster.

The father thought his son got just a cut on his hand and foot, but officials say his head injuries are life threatening.

We're told the baby's mother is at the hospital. Police treating this fall as accidental.
