Pit bull saves family during home invasion

NEW YORK

The family pit bull came to the rescue but took a bullet in the process.

The great news is Kilo, a 12 year old; 70 pound pit bull is alive and well.

"Nothing like a dog, took a bullet for us," said Justin Becker, Kilo's owner.

Poor dog! His owner Justin says the bleeding Saturday night after the push in and gunshots was so bad he was sure he'd lost him and he's had Kilo since he was a puppy.

"My girlfriend was like, 'Just hold him. Let him die in your arms peacefully,'" Becker said.

"Oh my God, I thought he was going to die! I really did!" Nicole Percoco, Becker's girlfriend said.

"What better story, right? Superdog?!" said Dr. Greg Panarella, a Veterinarian.

The vet says this could have been fatal for Kilo.

"So what happened is the bullet went in here, through the skin and then traveled here and came out his neck, out here," Dr. Panarella described.

So what's life like now for a hero miracle dog on the mend?

"We're giving him steak," Becker said.

"You're kidding?" Eyewitness News asked.

"No. All weekend," Becker said.

He's a hero and a love, unless you are a bad guy.
