The victims have been identified as 46 year-old Marilyn Brito and 47 year-old Juan Lizardo.
They lived in the second floor apartment where the fire broke out.
The fire started on the 2nd floor of the 14 story building at 4:30pm.
The victims were pronounced dead at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital.
Five other people, including a firefighter, were treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
