Teacher, charged with raping student, freed on bail

NEW YORK

/*Erin Sayar*/, the 36-year old high school teacher, walked out of Brooklyn Court free on $10,000 bail, but facing serious charges of rape, criminal sex acts and sex abuse. She said nothing as she was led to a waiting car by her attorney, Virginia Lopreto.

Sayar is accused of having sex with a student football player in the school and in Sayar's SUV, according to prosecutors, from late 2011 to January of this year.

"We will see what happens. But, again it's another case that is totally unacceptable," Schools Chancellor Dennis Wolcott said.

School and city officials recently have been highly critical of this and several similar cases involving teachers. "There is an 'oh well, you have plenty of ways to get rid of teachers who are sleeping with their students.' You don't have plenty of ways. They always grieve everything, which is a process that slows it down," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on his radio show.

The mayor refers to the united federation of teachers, whose president in a statement said in part, "As part of the UFT's zero tolerance policy, our contract mandates termination of employees found guilty of such offenses."

Sayar is married with a 3-year-old daughter.

The school in /*Brooklyn*/ is the same one where two females teachers were caught in a naked embrace in a classroom in 2009. They were fired.
