Stony Brook celebrates trip to College World Series

STONY BROOK

The unheralded Seawolves upset Louisiana State University, a six-time national champion, to earn a trip to Omaha later this week.

About 300 cheering fans welcomed the team home, including local Congressman Timothy Bishop.

Many players flashed a hand-signal for the letter "O'' to signify Omaha as they got off the team bus.

The Seawolves are the first New York team to reach the College World Series since 1980 and the first from the Northeast since 1986.

The team plays UCLA in Omaha on Friday.

The campus is 60 miles east of New York City.
