Arrest made in McDonald's hate crime slashing

NEW YORK

The incident took place around 7 p.m. September 19 at the restaurant on West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village.

The victim, 24-year-old Jamar McLeod, was attacked by a man who reportedly made anti-gay slurs about his transgendered girlfriend, Jaslisa Griffin. A verbal argument ensued following the comments, and that's when police say 44-year-old Keith Patron pulled out a razor blade and slashed McLeod on the elbow, face, back and neck.

He then fled the scene.

McLeod was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he received stitches for his injuries.

Patron is charged with assault as a hate crime.
