Massive 4th-alarm fire burns through Bronx home

NEW YORK

The blaze started in a private home on East 184th Street near Jerome Avenue just after 6 a.m.

The 2 1/2-story house was completely engulfed, and at least two neighboring homes also caught fire. Firefighters battled to prevent the flames from spreading to other nearby buildings.

It was a two-alarm fire on arrival, and it quickly spread to a fourth alarm. Flames were seen shooting out the roof and from all sides of the house.

There were injuries reported to both residents and firefighters, but none is considered life threatening. Red Cross disaster relief workers registered a total of 32 residents. Nine will require emergency housing.
