New York City school bus strike averted, for now

NEW YORK

Mayor Michael Bloomberg warned parents before the holidays that yellow bus service may not be available after the winter break.

The union was considering options to protest new contracts that could cost some drivers their jobs. The strike was averted, for now, according to union officials. They are still considering other alternatives.

More than 150,000 students depend on the buses.
