Grenade like explosive device found in Bronx raid

An improvised explosive device, shaped like a small pineapple grenade, was discovered during a drug search in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx.

The device was found inside the Waldo Avenue building at around 2 p.m. It was filled with what was initially described as a low grade explosive.

Police took the device into custody for further examination. Authorities say the incident stemmed from a search for drugs and there is no nexis to terrorism.

The search was being conducted as part of an ongoing investigation by a drug enforcement task force made up of DEA agents, NYPD officers and New York Police.
