The New Haven Register reports that Michael Lawlor, state undersecretary of criminal justice, said the Malloy administration is now determining how the new policy will work.
Issuing driver's licenses to young people in the United States illegally was announced on at a rally on Sunday organized by activists pushing for the change.
Lawlor says making the changes does not require an executive order by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, but that the Department of Motor Vehicles can do it on its own.
Young drivers would have to qualify for federal policy allowing young people brought into the country without authorization as children to avoid deportation if they graduate high school or join the military.
