James Bond Gang burglars in Ramapo

RAMAPO, N.Y.

Pick up the newspapers, turn on the lights, and activate your alarm; the James Bond Gang of burglars is back and this time they're in Rockland County.

"So now everyone has their lights on in the front. When neighbors are going away, they're calling a couple of us, not just one person," said Linda Ramos, a homeowner.

Police in Ramapo alone are investigating four similar burglaries dating back to November of last year, all in the Montibello section of town. In fact, one home was hit twice.

"High end homes, more expensive type homes in neighborhoods, things like the alarms being disabled," Lt. Mark Emma, Ramapo Police Department.

Lt. Emma is working closely with police departments in New Jersey where years ago, the James Bond Gang got its notorious start.

They smash through doors or windows, head right to the master bedroom, grab valuables, then disappear.

Police have made arrests in the past, but there are challenges.

"It is a large group, they've been in operation for long enough that maybe their children have taken on the family profession so to speak, they've been around that long," Lt. Emma said.

The James Bond Gang got its name because the burglars would use high-end pricy cars with secret compartments.
