A couple made the shocking discovery.
The baby boy was left outside a home on 132nd Street in South Richmond Hill.
Tossed on the concrete, the baby was left bleeding and helpless. There was still 10 inches of umbilical cord attached.
He was crying, but very softly.
The baby boy was found just before 7 a.m. Sunday, and the woman who found him said she's guessing that the woman came in the yard through one of the gates out of desperation, and threw the baby on the concrete.
"Let me tell you something, I did not believe that this was a baby until I saw my husband was very hysterical," said Yolanda Long, the woman who found the baby.
Long showed Eyewitness News where she and her husband found him lying.
911 was called and in the meantime, she tried to warm the little baby up.
"I wrapped the baby up very tightly and I took a heating pad and laid it across the towel, and I took my blow dryer and put it up so the heat could come down, because the baby looked sort of bluish to me," Long said.
The baby was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he has improved by the hour.
Police say the most important thing is to remind people of the "Save Haven Law". Anyone can take a newborn to a police precinct house, a fire station, or a church and hand it over to a person no questions asked.
