MTA introducing 'Bus Time' real-time tracking in Manhattan

MANHATTAN

The MTA on Monday introduced real-time tracking to the borough via smartphones, the web or text message.

MTA Bus Time allows riders to locate a bus along Manhattan's 36 routes.

The real-time tracking started as a pilot program on the B63 route in Brooklyn. It expanded to Staten Island and the Bronx last year.

Officials say the GPS technology is now available on more than 2,800 buses in Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx.

The MTA says it will offer real-time tracking on every city bus route in the next six months.

About 40,000 people use Manhattan buses on an average weekday.
