Alligator turned over to SPCA on Long Island

A 2-foot-long alligator is now safely in the hands of the SPCA after being turned in by its owner on Long Island.

The Suffolk County SPCA says the Miller Place resident did the right thing in turning in the reptile, rather than setting it loose somewhere.

This was the 19th gator rescued on the island in a little more than a year.

The SPCA says the gator is in good health and will soon be placed in a licensed reptile facility.
