Suspect charged with assaulting cop with cane in Brooklyn

BUSHWICK

27-year old Dairon Bledsoe is charged with felony assault, and assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon. According to investigators, two uniformed NYPD officers, assigned to transit, were patrolling the J line subway station in Bushwick when they heard banging on the street level.

The two officers went to the street where they saw Bledsoe hitting their patrol car with a cane.

After the officers approached the suspect and told him to stop, he fled.

When the officers chased and confronted him, police say Bledsoe swung the cane and struck one of them in the face, causing serious cuts, lacerations, swelling and bruising.

According to police, when the suspect tried to strike the officer again with a broken section of the cane, the other officer shot the suspect in the upper torso.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Sources tell Eyewitness News that the suspect is known for being combative, and he may be emotionally unstable, however the motive for the attack is unknown.
