January is one of two months it is cheaper to move onto a new mattress, according to research done by dealnews.com

"January is a great time to buy mattresses. You're not going to see sales until the summer, so it is a good idea to take advantage of sales now," says Mark LoCastro.

However, not just beds are rock bottom now - there are deals abound on all home furniture, tables, chairs, sofas and rugs. They are all 30% off or more.

"It's the end of the year, we get rid of some selected collections, says Moon Shirvanian of Raymour and Flanigan, "we will get new collections in March or February."

The same goes for winter clothes - 'out with the old, in with the new' translates into huge savings for you. There are many after Christmas and after New Year sales. For example, Gap has 70 percent off to make room for spring apparel according to LoCastro.

January is also the best month to "Spring into Shape". Resolve to get fit on deeply discounted home gym equipment and winter sports gear like skis and skates, which are always on clearance this time of the year.

Also, other seasonal items that take up shelf space are discounted at this time of the year.

"The best time to buy Christmas decorations is right now - 50-70 percent off everything," adds LoCastro.

Stockings, ornaments, Christmas trees - you name it, if it is holiday related, it is on sale.

There are also sales on big screen TVs, but LoCastro's advice is to hold off until next month to score the deepest discounts on any luxury high end models, cheapest just before the Super Bowl.

Don't wait until February to shop for your sweetheart – buy jewelry on post-Christmas sales right now. Valentine's Day items like jewelry and fragrances get more expensive, so it is best to take advantage of department store sales.

However, if the item, is perishable, like chocolate, make sure it doesn't expire before Valentine's Day.
