NYPD testing Google Glass for police use

NEW YORK

NYPD chief spokesman Stephen Davis says in a statement Friday that the nation's largest police force has been evaluating two pairs of Google Glass since it received them last December.

Davis says the computerized gadgets haven't been deployed in any field operations and are still being checked to see if they can play any role in policing.

Google Inc. hasn't yet made the computerized devise available to the general population. Instead, the Mountain View, Calif.-based company has delivered them to tens of thousands of people who are testing and creating apps for them.

Google didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

VentureBeat technology blog first reported Wednesday the NYPD was testing the glasses.
