Boy shot in Bronx park to push for tougher gun penalties

NEW YORK

Luisito's Law is named for 3-year-old Luis Oyola, Jr.

He was at Vidalia Park last summer when he was hit in the arm by a stray bullet.

The proposed legislation calls for a tougher minimum sentence for anyone who shoots a child under the age of 10 or shoots a weapon near a playground, park or school.

The boy's shooter would have faced a minimum 5-to-25 years behind bars if this law existed instead of 18 months-to-4 years on an assault charge.
