Firefighters say they responded to the blaze on Crane Street at 1:00 a.m. Monday and pulled the two women from a second-floor bedroom. The mother and her 19 year old daughter were rushed to Bridgeport Hospital, but died from their injuries, officials said.
They have been identified as 47-year-old Maureen Gerrity and her daughter, Katherine O'Neill.
Cause remains under investigation, but is believed by the Fire Marshal to be accidental.
Fire marshals found 2 carbon monoxide detectors in the house, but no smoke detectors.
Officials believe the blaze started on the first floor. Crews were blocked by heavy flames when they first arrived, and ended up going through a second floor window to try to save the women.
