2 tickets share $400 million Mega Millions jackpot

NEW YORK

Lottery officials say two tickets purchased in those states matched all five numbers and the Mega Ball drawn Tuesday night.

The winning numbers are: 11, 19, 24, 33 and 51 with a Mega Ball of 7.

The jackpot is the sixth-largest lottery prize in U.S. history and the third highest Mega Millions jackpot, with a lump-sum option of $224 million.

Florida lottery officials say their winning ticket was sold at a Sunoco convenience store in Merritt Island. Information about the Maryland ticket wasn't immediately available.

Two tickets sold in New York were $1 million winners.

It had been more than two months since anyone won the grand prize.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot was $656 million back in March of 212, when three winning tickets sold in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland shared the prize.

Two tickets sold in California and Georgia matched the $648 million drawing last December, and tickets in Georgia and New Jersey split $390 million in March of 2007.

The fifth largest Mega Millions jackpot was $380 million in 2011.

Mega Millions changed its rules in October to help increase jackpots. The game is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Lottery officials had placed the odds of winning Mega Millions at 1 in 259 million.
