Passaic partial building collapse forces evacuations

PASSAIC, N.J.

Thirty people were evacuated from three homes in a northern New Jersey community after a building's foundation partially collapsed.

But no injuries have been reported.

The Record reports that Passaic firefighters found a partial collapse on Jackson Street around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Officials say that building and the two adjacent structures were then evacuated as a precaution.

The affected residents have not been allowed back in their home because there is a potential for further collapse. It was not clear Sunday afternoon how long it would take for crews to shore up the building's foundation.
