A special gathering was held Wednesday night to thank the heroes who sprang into action after the deadly explosion in East Harlem last month.

The reception was held in the New York City Council chambers in Lower Manhattan.

It was a chance for Mayor Bill de Blasio and council members to thank the first responders who rushed to the scene to help the victims.

Among those being recognized were members of the NYPD, FDNY, community service workers, the Red Cross, and neighborhood volunteers.

The explosion left eight people dead and dozens of others hurt.
