Exclusive: Man stabbed on subway says no one would help him despite pleas

ELMHURST, Queens (WABC) -- A man says he was robbed and stabbed on the subway, but no one would help him in greatest time of need.

Efrain Guaman is finally back in his Elmhurst, Queens, home after five long days in the hospital.

The 33-year-old was stabbed on a busy New York City train two weeks ago.

The robber demanded he give up his cell phone.

Once he did, the man still stabbed him in the chest.

Eyewitness News asked the Ecuadorian immigrant if he thought he was dying as he watched blood gushing from his body.

He said, yes he was scared, especially as his body became cold, but he tried to focus on surviving the attack to be with his 2-year-old daughter.

"Help me, help me," Guaman described saying.

It happened on the N train at the Pacific Street stop in Park Slope.

Guaman was on his way to work at his family's electronics store.

He says he asked passengers for help, but no one did a thing...he believes because many froze with fright.

Guaman has 22 stitches and uses a tube to monitor his breathing.

The single dad says he is nervous about riding the subway again, but says after 15 years in New York City, this is his where he wants to raise his daughter.
