BRONX (WABC) -- A two-alarm brush fire burned along the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx.
The fire broke out early Monday morning. NewsCopter 7 was over the scene in Van Cortlandt Park just before 9 a.m. Monday.
Large plumes of smoke could be seen coming up from the wooded area near Jerome Avenue.
Firefighters stretched their hoses into the woods and where the lines wouldn't reach, they used shovels to battle the flames.
As of 10:15 a.m., the FDNY said there were no more visible flames and they were remaining at the scene as a precaution.
The expressway remained open during the firefighting operations.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
