It's also the best month of the calendar year to buy something that everyone of us uses at least once a day.

What to buy:

*Pearls: We saw them discounted about 75%.

*Perfume: Big retailers are stocking up on them for Mother's Day.

*Spring Apparel: Ben Glaser of DealNews.com says you can snag spring apparel on the clearance rack.

*Small kitchen appliances: You can get blenders and toasters discounted about 60 percent, but wait for the Memorial Day sales.

*Mattresses: It's the best time of the year to buy one. Memorial Day sales should discount them by a minimum of 50%.

*All things Star Wars: The magic day is May 4th. You'll find deep discounts on this day only. Have fun and "May the 4th be with you."

What not to buy:

*Summer Apparel: It's not discounted now. Wait 2 months.

*Laptops: Hold off on buying them. Believe it or not, back to school sales will sneak in next month before school's even out.
