Police say the cane belongs to an older woman who was hit by a car around 10:30 this morning.
The woman was reportedly very badly hurt and rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Astoria. Her condition is unknown.
Eyewitness News is told police have stopped a tractor-trailer about a half-a-block away. However, police say they're unsure if the truck has anything to do with the accident.
Right now this incident is characterized as a hit and run.
Police are questioning the driver of the truck, but it is unknown what his connection is to the accident.
