Updating your clothes while on a budget

February 15, 2009 Look # 1 - Adding details
There are a lot of ways to give items in our wardrobe a new life by using simple techniques and supplies that are probably lying around the house. All you really need is a hand sewing needle, thread and some pieces of fabric or old clothes that can be used as fabric. You can also add appliques to almost anything including hats and bags.

Look # 2 - Re-work vintage finds
This is New York and there are so many great thrift and second hand shops. So, often we acquire all these really great pieces, but for some reason or another, they don't work for us. Examples would be dress with a great pattern, but it has hideous shoulder pads or a funky sweater thats was too big but we just had to have. Using simple sewing techniques you can update the garment.

Look # 3 - A touch of color goes a long way
Dying a garment can really liven it up or camaflouge an imperfection in a garment or a stain.
