3 men seriously injured in NJ shootings

NEWARK Detective Todd McClendon, a city police spokesman, said officers responding to a report of shots fired on James Street found the men shortly before 5 a.m.

All three were taken to University Hospital, where two were listed in critical condition and the other was in stable condition on Saturday night.

McClendon said an 18-year-old man was shot in the chest; a 21-year-old man was struck in the abdomen and a 24-year-old man was wounded in the leg. He said the victims - whose names were not disclosed - did not provide any useful information on the suspects and that a motive for the shootings has not been determined.

It was not immediately clear if the shootings were linked.
