Jurors hear from detectives in playground slaying

NEWARK Two detectives from the Suffolk County, N.Y., police department testified about finding a .357 Magnum handgun during a search of a home in Bay Shore, Long Island, in March 2008.

Neither the prosecution nor the defense has connected it to the Newark slayings.

Rodolfo Godinez is the first of six defendants to come to trial in the case.

Earlier Tuesday, the judge denied a defense request for a mistrial based on a newspaper article that alleged the other defendants in the case, who will be tried separately, named Godinez as a ringleader.
